What it covers

Every resort reports conditions. Almost none of them know what it costs. The expense is not a line item. It is spread across a patroller’s morning, a marketing manager’s phone, a front desk answering the same question forty times, and the guests who do not come back after a wrong trail report.

• Where the status lives. How many times a single fact gets retyped between the mountain and the guest. That number is what any automation project is priced against.
• What happens on a bad day. A process that works on a quiet Tuesday is not the same as one that works on the first powder Saturday.
• What you can prove. Season reporting, dispute resolution, and whether your timestamp is generated or typed.

Score each question 0, 1 or 2. Eighteen points possible. The scoring bands tell you where you stand and what is worth fixing first.
